AES Confederation Launches Television Network in Push for Media Sovereignty

992

Meeting in Bamako, the three Heads of State of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) have officially launched AES Television, a new regional broadcaster aimed at strengthening media sovereignty across the Sahel.

The launch was led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of Niger, and General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition of Mali.

AES Television is positioned as a confederal media platform aimed at reclaiming control of the Sahel’s narrative. According to officials, the channel will provide a shared space to inform the public, explain regional challenges, and project what they describe as the authentic voice of AES populations.

Beyond creating a new broadcaster, the initiative carries strong political symbolism. Leaders of the confederation say the channel represents a renewed effort to take ownership of information, deepen regional integration, and assert media sovereignty in the face of security, informational, and geopolitical pressures.

The launch underscores the AES vision of communicating “by ourselves, for ourselves,” as the bloc continues to consolidate its institutions and collective identity within the Sahel region.
