Niger Secures Seat On International Atomic Energy Agency Board Of Governors For 2 Term

Niger has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a two-year term, thereby strengthening its role on the international stage in the field of nuclear energy and security. The election took place during the 69th IAEA General Conference, held from September 15 to 19, 2025, in Vienna, Austria.

According to the Nigerien presidency, this achievement highlights the country’s growing credibility and its strategic position within global institutions. It also reflects Niger’s determination to play an active role in shaping international nuclear policy.

The Nigerien delegation to the conference was led by Colonel Maizama Abdoulaye, Minister of Environment, Hydraulics and Sanitation. He was accompanied by the President of the High Authority for Atomic Energy (HANEA), as well as senior officials from the Ministry, HANEA, and the National Agency for Radiation Safety (ARSN).

The position further underscores the leadership of President General Abdourahamane Tiani, who also chairs the Strategic Orientation Committee for the Nuclear Power Programme (COSPEN).
