In a decisive nationwide counter-terror campaign, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have conducted a series of major operations between May 19 and May 28, targeting terrorist strongholds and mobile units across several key regions, including Hombori, San, Nioro du Sahel, Timbuktu, and Ménaka.

The military offensives, described as some of the most intense in recent months, destroyed logistics vehicles, weapons and explosive caches, as well as the neutralisation of drone-operating terrorist units.

The operation kicked off on May 19 near Hombori (Gao region), where FAMa forces destroyed a terrorist logistics vehicle and eliminated its occupants. The momentum continued on May 24 in the San region, with a successful strike against regrouped terrorists southeast of Timissa.

Simultaneously, mobile terrorist teams were intercepted in Siringo (southwest of Nioro du Sahel), Wassamangatere, and Dalida (north of Sandaré). Among the targets were drone operators and fast-moving tactical units, pointing to an increased reliance on surveillance and real-time intelligence by Malian forces.

On May 28, the campaign reached a new peak. Near Banikane, southwest of Diré in the Timbuktu region, FAMa destroyed a significant logistics depot comprising vehicles and stockpiled materials. In a separate operation in Tidermène (north of Ménaka), a group of terrorists was neutralised while transporting weapons, explosives, and supplies, AES Info reported.

These operations dealt a severe blow to terrorist groups’ mobility and coordination capabilities. FAMa’s General Staff emphasised that these actions are part of a broader strategy to “cleanse the national territory of terrorist threats and protect civilian lives.”
