Headies rescheduled event

The Headies Awards, Nigeria’s prestigious music event, has been rescheduled from April 5 to April 27, 2025. The decision, announced by the Headies Academy, was attributed to “unforeseen circumstances” in a statement released on their social media pages.

While the organisers did not disclose specific reasons for the shift, they assured fans and stakeholders that the adjustment was necessary to ensure a memorable ceremony. The 17th edition will mark the awards’ return to Nigeria after two consecutive editions held in the United States.

“We understand that plans may have already been made for the previous date, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read. “Our commitment to delivering an exceptional experience at The Headies remains unwavering.”

This year’s nominations are already generating buzz, with artists like Rema, OdumoduBlvck, Tems, and Ayra Starr dominating the list. Eligible works included music released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, spanning singles, videos, live recordings, EPs, and albums.

Meanwhile, Headies Executive Producer Ayo Animashaun recently voiced concerns over the declining support for the award show. He noted the growing influence of international awards like the Grammys, calling for more local backing for Nigeria’s entertainment platforms.

With the new date set, the Headies Academy hopes this edition will reignite enthusiasm and reaffirm its position as the gold standard in Nigerian music recognition. Fans can expect a night of music, glamour, and memorable performances as the industry’s finest talents gather to celebrate.
