Veteran actor Jide Kosoko is set to shed light on Lagos during the colonial era through his latest production, Esugbayi Eleko.

The movie centres on Oba Esugbayi Eleko’s reign, resistance to British imperialism, and alliances with figures like Herbert Macaulay and Alimotu Pelewura. It also highlights Lagosians’ cultural resilience and the Idejos’ unwavering support in the struggle for freedom.

Set in the early 19th century, the film promises to immerse viewers in a historical narrative that blends drama, culture, and Lagos’s rich traditions. Under ObaEleko’s leadership, audiences will witness the intersection of traditional values and the pressures of colonial modernity.

Jide Kosoko’s connection to Yoruba traditions runs deep. He was born into a royal family and holds the title of prince, or “omoba”, in Yoruba. He recently played Olukosi in the Netflix production Seven Doors.

Though casting details remain undisclosed, sources suggest a mix of seasoned and emerging talents will bring this story to life. The movie is expected to celebrate Lagos’s heritage and reflect its historical challenges.
