Two public officials accused of embezzling several billion CFA francs have been taken into custody, according to Burkina Faso’s public prosecutor at the Ouaga 1 High Court, Blaise Bazié.

A patrimonial investigation is ongoing to identify assets they may have obtained illegally.

The first official, Tiegnan Amidou from the Ministry of Humanitarian Action, is suspected of embezzling over 3 billion FCFA meant for caring for internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso.

According to Faso7, Amidou allegedly forged signatures and issued fraudulent checks, using falsified financial records to cover the misappropriations.

Authorities have seized several assets linked to Amidou, including luxury vehicles, properties, and 159 million FCFA in cash.

The second official, Stanislas Kinda, is accused of embezzling nearly 578 million FCFA from the Center for the Promotion of Poultry Farming and the Multiplication of High-Performance Animals. He is also in custody as investigations into his assets continue.

Prosecutor Bazié has called on anyone with additional information regarding the cases to come forward as the judicial investigation proceeds.

This follows President Ibrahim Traoré’s announcement that a large-scale embezzlement network within the Ministry of Humanitarian Action had been discovered. He revealed that several billion CFA francs had been misappropriated by ministry officials in 2024.

Traoré vowed to root out corruption across public administration, urging the Commission for the Settlement of Dysfunctions to intensify efforts to uncover others exploiting public funds.
