Nigerian actress Somkele Idhalama has secured a significant role in the popular American science fiction series Star Trek: Discovery, marking a major milestone in her acting career.
The Delta State-born actress plays “The Progenitor” in the 10th episode of the series’ fifth season, titled “Life, Itself”. The role is a pivotal addition to the Paramount+ show, which has a global fanbase. Idhalama expressed her excitement on social media, revealing that landing the part was a long-awaited opportunity after multiple auditions.
In an Instagram post, she shared her journey to the role: “Guess who and guess where…it’s yours truly on the set of @startrekonpplus as ‘The Progenitor.’ Interesting fact: I auditioned for this show for a good minute. Finally got a cool role then.”
Idhalama, known for her roles in The Wedding Party films, Lara and the Beat, and more, continues to make strides in her career, both locally and internationally. In addition to her Star Trek achievement, she has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
