Ghana Reports First Case Of Mpox

Ghana First Case Mpox

Ghana has reported its first case of Mpox (Monkeypox) in the Western North Region. According to the Ghana Health Service’s report, the case was confirmed on October 1, 2024, by the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory.

The infected person was a 15-year-old boy who went to a local hospital on September 25 with a fever, body pains, sore throat, and a rash that started on his hands,au face and later spread. He has no recent travel history or known exposure to an infected person. He was admitted to the hospital but has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.

Local health authorities have activated emergency measures, and 15 healthcare facilities and 10 community contacts are being monitored. As of September 29, 2024, 230 suspected Mpox cases have been reported across 88 districts in all 16 regions of Ghana, with Greater Accra seeing the highest number of cases (87). No deaths have been reported.

According to authorities, investigation into the confirmed case is ongoing.
