Nigerian movie director Izu Ojukwu has released a three-minute trailer for his movie, 77: The Festac Conspiracy. The historical drama, set during the Second World African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) in 1977, explores the political undercurrents of the time through the lens of an ex-serviceman embroiled in a movement to challenge Africa’s political structures.

FESTAC ’77, a significant cultural event in Nigeria’s history, took place in Lagos from January 15 to February 12, 1977, celebrating African arts and culture. The film is written by Olisa Eloka for Adonis Production, with art direction by renowned Nigerian designer Pat Nebo and cinematography by Peter Kreil.

Featuring a star-studded cast, 77 includes performances by Ramsey Nouah as Captain Dewa, Rita Dominic as Suzy, Daniel K. Daniel as Corporal Obi, and Ibinabo Fibresima in dual roles as Angela.

This project comes as a sequel to Ojukwu’s 2016 hit film 76, a political thriller that depicted the failed 1976 coup in Nigeria and the assassination of General Murtala Mohammed. While 76 focused on the struggles of a soldier, Captain Dewa, falsely accused of involvement in the coup, 77 aimed to delve deeper into Africa’s quest for political liberation during the FESTAC period.

There is no confirmed release date for 77 at this time.
