Season 2 of The Smart Money Woman, the popular financial drama series, is set to premiere in October, according to showrunner Arese Ugwu. Ugwu teased the upcoming season with a trailer, building anticipation for the follow-up to the widely successful first season.
The show, based on Ugwu’s book of the same name, explores the financial and personal journeys of five women. Season 2 will draw inspiration from Ugwu’s sequel book, The Smart Money Tribe, which delves deeper into financial strategies for African women.
While Netflix has yet to confirm its involvement, filming for the new season started in 2022, with parts of the production taking place in South Africa, aligning with the storyline where the characters travel for a conference.
The returning cast includes Osas Ighodaro, Ini Dima-Okojie, Toni Tones, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Eso Dike and Timini Egbuson alongside newcomers like Enyinnaya Nwigwe and Tobi Bakre. The first season, which aired on Africa Magic in 2020 before gaining international attention on Netflix, was praised for blending entertainment with valuable financial lessons.
The new season is being helmed by directors Bunmi Ajakaiye and Wande Thomas, with Ugwu serving as executive producer.
