NLC Threatens Nationwide Strike if President Ajaero is Arrested After Recent Police Invitation

318

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned of a nationwide strike if its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, is arrested by the police. The threat was issued after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NLC headquarters on Tuesday. The meeting was called in response to a police invitation for Ajaero over allegations of terrorism financing.

NLC Deputy President Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani emphasised that while the union intends to honour the police invitation, they have requested an extension to allow consultation with legal advisers. Sani urged workers nationwide to be on standby, ready to down tools immediately if Ajaero is detained.

The union insists that any action against Ajaero is against the Nigerian workforce.

“We are not a faceless organisation. If our President is arrested, all workers will immediately down tools”, Sani said, addressing the workers gathered at the Labour House in Abuja.

The NLC stated it would protect the safety and integrity of the organisation and urged all members to remain calm and prepared for further instructions.
