A combined operation between troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the Hybrid Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force made a breakthrough against insurgency with the killing of Abu Rajab, a notorious Boko Haram commander, and three other terrorists in a daredevil raid conducted on the Sambisa Forest, Borno State, on August 17, 2024.
According to Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, the troops met stiff resistance when they were ambushed by the insurgents while en route to the enclave of the terrorists.
A fierce gunbattle ensued, but the troops returned and repelled the attack, killing the insurgents and forcing the remaining fighters to retreat.
The military further indicated that troops recovered the following items at the scene: two AK-47 rifles and a mobile phone. However, one member of the Hybrid Force was shot and later succumbed to the injuries.
