A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at a seven-storey building located on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on X and other videos.

According to Adeseye, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 05:17 a.m. and immediately dispatched firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations.

The firefighters arrived at the scene by 05:33 a.m., where they promptly worked on quenching the fire.

The firefighting teams controlled the fire, which affected several shops within the building. Ventilation efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an electrical surge likely caused the fire; no casualties have been reported.
