PSquare Splits Again As Peter Okoye Writes Open Letter To Twin Brother Paul

The widely popular Nigerian music duo PSquare has split once again, with Peter Okoye (Mr. P) addressing his twin brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), in an open letter on X (formerly Twitter) that revealed deep-seated tensions. This latest fallout comes three years after their much-publicized reunion in 2021, which saw them release songs like “Jaiye” and “Find Somebody” under their iconic PSquare brand.

Peter’s letter follows recent interviews by Paul, where he hinted at ongoing issues between the brothers. Paul had shared that their problems began in 2014, around the release of their track “Ejeajo” featuring American rapper T.I. Paul explained that the song’s reception was lukewarm due to fans missing his distinctive vocals, a situation exacerbated by the perception that he was the group’s primary songwriter while Peter was seen mainly as a dancer. Paul also added that Peter petitioned him and their elder brother, Jude, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.

In his letter posted on X, Peter challenged Paul’s narrative, accusing him of diminishing his contributions to PSquare’s success. “In your recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-SQUARE songs and discredited me by saying that our song with T.I., ‘Ejeajo,’ which I wrote, was a failure,” Peter wrote, adding that Paul ignored their other successful songs like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Alingo” and others.

Peter also criticised Paul for allegedly trying to take control of the group with their older brother, Jude Okoye. He expressed frustration over how Paul had belittled his efforts and consistently disrespected him and his family. Peter further emphasised how he saw him and his brother as a team and used “we” to address themselves during interviews, but Paul was all about “I” and “me”. “It’s as if I never existed,” he wrote.

“You are always claiming to be PSquare’s songwriter, composer, producer, singer, backup vocalist, in fact you are everything… I dash you 100% of everything instead of the 99% you claim,” Peter wrote, adding that their fans had fallen in love with the duo’s combined efforts, not just one member’s contributions.

Peter blamed himself for not responding to Paul’s tweet claims in 2015 that he wrote all of PSquare songs. He is saddened that his twin chose to side with their elder brother Jude to humiliate and marginalize him. Peter concluded by wishing his brother well and added that he will address the EFCC saga between the brothers before the end of the day.

The PSquare brothers first split in 2016 after dominating the African music scene for over a decade. Their 2021 reunion briefly rekindled hopes among fans, but this latest rift suggests that the partnership may be over for good.
