A passenger plane carrying 62 people, including 58 passengers and four crew members, crashed on Friday in the city of Vinhedo, São Paulo state, Brazil. The aircraft, operated by Voepass Linhas Aéreas, was going from Cascavel, Paraná, to São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport when it lost signal around 1:30 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. WAT).

Footage shared on social media shows the plane spiralling out of control before lowering into a residential area. The crash ignited a large fire, engulfing several houses in the vicinity. The Brazilian Civil Defense reported that the aircraft struck multiple homes during its descent.

Emergency services, including the state fire brigade, military police, and civil defence teams, were quickly dispatched.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, while attending an event, informed the public about the crash and called for a minute of silence. He indicated that it appeared all 62 people on board had perished. However, official confirmation of casualties is still pending.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, and Voepass has yet to provide further details. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
