Uba Sani relaxes 24-hour curfew in Kaduna, Zaria

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed in the state following the breakdown of law and order on Days 4 and 5 of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.

The Kaduna state government, on Monday, announced a 24-hour curfew following reported cases of violence, looting and vandalism during the protest in parts of the state.

Kaduna is one of the states that have recorded violence in the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger, food inflation, and political corruption. On Tuesday, a 16-year-old boy was killed by soldiers deployed to quell protests.

Meanwhile, the government has relaxed the curfew, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan.

He said the curfew is no longer from 8 am to 6 pm daily, but now from 6 pm to 8 am, effective August 8.

Aruwan explained that the Kaduna State Security Council decided after a “thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna, Zaria and environs”.

By this review, the curfew will now be in effect from 6 pm to 8 am daily. This implies that citizens may move freely and carry out their legitimate activities between 8 am and 6 pm and will revert to the curfew from 6 pm to 8 am. 

“The Kaduna State Security Council reiterates its total commitment to the peace and security of the state and will continue to take all steps deemed necessary for their preservation,” he said.
