Just In: Kaduna Authorities Impose 24-Hour Curfew In Kaduna, Zaria   

The Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan areas, as the #EndBadGovernance protests reach its fifth day. The nationwide protests which has gathered traction online involved thousands of citizens demanding accountability and an end to hardship.

The Kaduna security operatives have claimed that criminal elements are taking advantage of the protests to loot and vandalise properties.

Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, stated,

“There is sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminal elements who have resorted to looting of shops and destruction of private and public property. In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and environs with immediate effect. Citizens are advised to remain indoors while security forces continue to work to maintain safety and security. Monitoring will be sustained for review of the curfew as required.”

Despite the promises to restore order, reports from Zaria indicated that security personnel have been firing shots during the protests, creating an atmosphere of fear.
