Gov. Dapo Abiodun Fails to Deliver on 2-Weeks Deadline on Road Construction

752
Governor Dapo Abiodun has failed to begin construction on the Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute Roads as promised a few weeks ago, according to a letter seen by West Africa Weekly, by Promise Ring, under AdvoKC’s Promise Tracker for states, which tracks reminds, and advocates for promises made by state governors to be kept.
The deadlines set by  Abiodun to begin active construction on the Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute Roads have not materialised.

On July 8, 2024, against the backdrop of public outcry by the people of Ogun State over the deplorable condition of roads, the state governor visited Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute Roads to see things for himself on the status of such roads.

He assured that construction on these roads would commence within three weeks.

“We have set a firm two-week deadline for the completion of the Denro-Ishasi Road project, and within two weeks, maximum three weeks, there will be active construction along Alagbole-Ayaoe-Ajuwon and Akute roads.”

Despite that, the contract for Alagbole-Ayaoe-Ajuwon Road had been awarded, which the governor identified with the project on social media; work has yet to commence on these roads, as confirmed by AdvoKC.

It should also be noted that the Alagbole-Ayaoe-Ajuwon and Akute roads are vital, as travellers use them to neighbouring states and traders.

The letter noted that the governor has promised to fix these roads several times but has repeatedly broken those promises.

The promises of constructing good roads in the community date back to 1984.

Some residents accused the government of paying lip service to their numerous complaints; a resident said the governor had promised to complete the road on January 16 last year.

Residents and commuters in this area are becoming more concerned by the apparent lack of active construction of these roads.

This deplorable condition of these roads remains a huge inconvenience to daily commuters, economic activities, and general quality of life.

The letter concluded by calling on the governor to pay attention to the welfare of Ogun State people and his professed commitment to good governance to take immediate actions to ensure that the promised “active construction along the Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute roads” begins without further delay.
