A branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Ughelli has reportedly witnessed a violent robbery attempt earlier today, as gunmen stormed the premises and engaged the police officers stationed at the bank in a fierce gun battle.

According to reports, the gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, trailed one of the bank customers who was going to make a deposit.

They blocked the customer in front of the bank before carrying out the attack less than three minutes after the witness had entered the building.

“There was no chance for them to enter because the police stationed at the bank immediately engaged them in a gun duel,” an eyewitness disclosed.

Reports pointed that the response from the police foiled their attempt to enter the bank.

However, there are reports that two of the alleged gunmen shot two persons before they escaped. The victims who had been shot were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
