Newly Elected United Kingdom Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, in what is considered one of the first decisions on his first day in office— called off the controversial deportation plan that was supposed to send migrants who entered the UK illegally to Rwanda.

After meeting King Charles III, a requirement for incoming prime ministers, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has officially become the United Kingdom’s prime minister.

Prime Minister Starmer led his party to a sweeping victory over the Conservative party, which ruled for 14 years.

My government will make you believe again, Starmer proclaimed in front of No. 10 Downing Street (prime minister’s house) during his first address as UK’s prime minister.

He vowed to lead a government of service and promised that his government would rebuild Britain.

“The work of change begins immediately,” he declared.

Labour won 412 of the parliament seats out of 650. Conservatives won 121, 244 less than the 365 seats they won in the 2019 elections. Liberal Democrats came third, with 71 seats.

Starmer is the first leader from Labour to win the U.K. general election since Tony Blair did so in 1997.
