The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, Adolphus Wabara, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State over civil unrest in some parts of the state.

Wabara, the statement he signed on Friday, warned Tinubu not to fall for the antics of some people he described as “greedy and power-drunk anti-democratic forces” desperate to hijack Rivers State.

He said, “Nothing is happening in the state that warrants the call for a state of emergency as being demanded by these fake apostles of peace.”

He argued that a state of emergency in Rivers would be interpreted as an attempt to scuttle the democratically elected PDP-led Government in Rivers.

He vowed that his party would not tolerate such a move

We won’t allow anti-democratic forces and insatiable elements hijack power through the back door in their desperation to hang on to power and hold the state to the jugular, he said.

The political crisis, which has degenerated into violence, borders on a conflict between the state government and local government chairpersons loyal to the former governor and minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state, citing escalating violence and a breakdown of order.
