Davido Seeks Joint Custody Of Daughter, Imade In Legal Battle With Sophia Momodu

Nigerian music star Davido has filed a lawsuit against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, seeking joint custody of their daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke. The suit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024 and dated April 17, 2024, names David Adedeji Adeleke (Davido) as the applicant and Ms. Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.

According to PM News, Davido requested the court to grant him joint custody and unfettered access to Imade. Despite their relationship ending years ago, Davido said he had consistently provided for his daughter’s needs, covering her school fees, transportation, and accommodation expenses.

The musician accused Momodu of making unreasonable demands to frustrate his efforts. He cited her rejection of a N200 million apartment in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which he purchased for their daughter’s living arrangements. Instead, Momodu allegedly insisted that Davido continue paying N5,000,000 annually for a rented facility.

Davido also said he provided a Range Rover SUV for Momodu and Imade’s transportation needs. However, Momodu reportedly complained about the vehicle’s condition without informing him directly. To address this, Davido supplied a Highlander SUV and an additional N5.8 million for the Range Rover’s repairs, resulting in two available vehicles.

“She began to make excuses and complained that the Range Rover SUV was not in a good condition. However, she refused to inform me about that. Sequel to the information about the said condition of the vehicle, I provided another vehicle, a Highlander SUV, and in addition, the sum of N5.8m as requested by her for the repair of the Range Rover SUV, making it two vehicles in her custody and use of the respondent and our daughter,” he added.

In his suit, Davido emphasised his ongoing financial commitments to his daughter’s well-being, including living expenses, nanny fees, healthcare, insurance, and international travel costs. Despite these contributions, he claims that Momodu has continued to make extravagant demands.

Davido is now seeking a court order to secure joint custody of Imade, aiming to ensure his continued involvement in her life and well-being.
