BEWARE: Scammer Using David Hundeyin’s Name To Promote Investment Scam

A scammer is on a rampage using the name of Investigative Journalist and West Africa Weekly founder David Hundeyin, to promote an investment scam platform called “Nearest Edge.”

It has been observed that apart from advancing the investment scam, the person or  group of persons involved are also trying to deliberately stain and distort the journalist’s internet footprint.

The perpetrators are employing multiple approaches, including a fake interview purportedly between Hundeyin and Nigerian TV host, Chude Jideonwo, fake chats between the duo, and a fake newspaper publication, in which Hundeyin’s name is deliberately mentioned, alongside the fraudulent “Nearest Edge” investment.

In the fictitious interview, Hundeyin purportedly boasted of being a millionaire in dollars and claimed to have made money from the “Nearest Edge” investment.

In what looks like an attempt to frame the critical Investigative Journalist, a newspaper report was fabricated and circulated using the layout, design, font and imprint of Vanguard Newspaper, even though the fabrication was not authored by Vanguard.

The publication purportedly claimed that the Central Bank of Nigeria “sued” Hundeyin. This, West Africa Weekly can authoritatively confirm, is completely false.

The defamatory posts were shared and sponsored on Facebook

Reacting to the fabrications and defamation, Hundeyin said, “This is a new level of disinformation. Instead of just regular fake news that can be easily debunked, someone is clearly trying to frame me up using a scam investment website to trick people out of their hard earned money.

“The intention is for the name “David Hundeyin” to become psychologically linked with a financial scam in the Nigerian subconscious. And of course you try telling anyone who actually loses money to “Nearest Edge” that it has nothing to do with me.”
