Tyla’s self-titled album, “Tyla,” has crossed the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify. This accomplishment has solidified its position as one of the top-streamed albums originating from the African continent.

The album joins an elite league, becoming the third African album to reach this impressive milestone on Spotify. Previously, the titles of the most-streamed albums were held by Burna Boy’s “Rave & Roses Ultra” and Rema’s “Love, Damini,” with Rema leading the pack with over 2.3 billion streams, followed by Burna Boy with over 1.1 billion streams.

Comprising 14 tracks, “Tyla” resonated particularly well with audiences worldwide, with the track “Water” emerging as a standout hit. The song achieved viral status across continents, catapulting Tyla into the global spotlight.

The widespread acclaim didn’t stop there, as “Water” also clinched a prestigious Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, a category introduced for the first time at the 66th Grammy Awards.

The 22-year-old South African has continued to champion African music on a global scale, putting the continent firmly on the map of the international music scene.
