The Nigerian Police Force has abducted Madu Onuorah, a Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Global Upfront Newspaper in Abuja.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the management of the online news platform, 10 officers of the NPF invaded his home in Lugbe around 6 pm (WAT) on Wednesday and abducted him in the presence of his family.

During the abduction, the officer did not provide arrest warrants nor disclosed his offence.

The newspaper management has demanded Onuorah’s immediate release, stating that anyone who has issues against him should pursue legal options.

“He was not even allowed to contact his lawyer or any of his relations before he was whisked away to the Lugbe police station by the stern-looking operatives,” they said.

The abduction of Onuorah marks yet another journalist illegally detained by the Nigeria Police Force, on the request of petitioners who would deploy the service of the police rather than follow the legal route.

On May 3rd, FIJ’s Journalist, Daniel Ojukwu was also abducted and illegally detained for several days without access to family and friends. He was released 10 days later.
