An unidentified police officer yesterday endangered the life of an Uber passenger by struggling with the driver for the steering while he was driving on a highway.

The bizarre and disturbing incident, which reportedly lasted about 10 minutes and was captured on video, allegedly occurred in Lagos.

The video, which has gone viral, sparked public outrage, causing people to question the integrity and role of the police force in maintaining law and order.

The video showed the officer forcibly attempting to take control of the vehicle’s steering wheel while the driver struggled to maintain control. The female passenger pleaded with the officer to release the driver and prioritise their safety.

“My sister kept begging the officer to let the driver go at least, but the man said ‘Oga’ (a term for ‘boss’ or ‘sir’) is more important than all their lives combined,” an X user posted.

The police officer told the passenger:

“You’ll move! They asked me to carry you go office; you carry me dey go run away, I say stop! You say no.”

“He’s carrying me away..”

While the distressing scene continued for minutes, the lady feared for her life and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

The identity of the Uber driver and the passengers has not been disclosed, but it is clear that the incident left them shaken.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for responsible conduct by law enforcement to ensure the safety and trust of the public they serve.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force is yet to react to the incident, and the identity of the officer is yet to be known.
