Forbes has released its 2024 list of the top 10 highest-paid athletes, featuring global sports icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and LeBron James.
The rankings were based on the significant earnings both on and off the field for these elite athletes.
Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list with an estimated $260 million in earnings over the last 12 months, marking the fourth time he has achieved this status. His contract with Al Nassr contributed $200 million, with an additional $60 million coming from endorsements with brands like Nike, Binance, and Herbalife.
Following Ronaldo, golfer Jon Rahm earned $218 million, largely due to his decision to join LIV Golf, which brought in substantial earnings and equity stakes. Rahm’s on-field earnings were $198 million, complemented by $20 million off the field.
Lionel Messi secured the third spot with $135 million. His move to Inter Miami has significantly boosted the club’s value and revenue. Messi earned $65 million on the field and $70 million off the field through endorsements with brands like Adidas, Apple, and Konami.
LeBron James ranks fourth with $128.2 million, earning $48.2 million on the court and $80 million off the court. His endorsements and investments, including a partnership with DraftKings and involvement in PGA Tour Enterprises, have been lucrative.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, a Greek basketball player, is fifth with a net worth of $111 million. Kylian Mbappé is worth $110 million, earning $90 million from playing and $20 million from off-field ventures.
Popular footballer Neymar featured as number six with a net worth of $108 million. Karim Benzema followed suit with a net worth of $106 million.
Stephen Curry, an American basketball player, takes the ninth spot with a net worth of $102 million and Lamar Jackson ends the list.
