Warner Bros. Announces New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movie: ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ Set for 2026 Release

Warner Bros. gears up to release the first installment of its fresh batch of live-action “The Lord of the Rings” films, titled “The Hunt for Gollum,” slated for a 2026 release.
The legendary Peter Jackson, who brought the original trilogy to life, will serve as a producer, while the talented Andy Serkis, known for his portrayal of Gollum, will step into the director’s chair.
Variety Magazine reported that the project is in its infancy, with a team of writers, including Jackson’s longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, alongside newcomers Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, delving into unexplored storylines, according to statements from Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav.
A press release from Warner Bros. unveiled the working title for the film as “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” confirming Serkis’s involvement both behind the camera and on-screen as the iconic Gollum.
