The Kenya Police Service has apprehended Nadeem Anjarwalla, a senior executive at Binance, following his escape from custody in Nigeria.

Anjarwalla’s arrest comes as the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) intensified efforts to apprehend and extradite him to Nigeria.

On Sunday, government sources who spoke anonymously due to the sensitivity of the matter confirmed the development.

According to these sources, Anjarwalla’s capture signals a significant breakthrough in the pursuit of justice, as authorities work tirelessly to bring him back to Nigeria to face charges, PUNCH reported.

Anjarwalla’s whereabouts had been a subject of intense scrutiny since he evaded the Nigerian authorities.

However, government agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alongside INTERPOL and the Kenya Police Service, collaborated to track him down.

“We have found him. We know where he is; he is in Kenya, and we’re working with the authorities to bring him back to Nigeria,” one source disclosed. “All hands are on deck, and the government and security agencies are collaborating closely with Kenyan authorities and INTERPOL to ensure his expeditious return to Nigeria to face the charges against him,” stated in earlier reports.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, reiterated the commission’s commitment to combating financial crimes, highlighting the importance of Anjarwalla’s apprehension in preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s forex market.

“The takeover of the prosecution of Binance chiefs by the commission is no less a strong message in the direction of EFCC’s resolve to hedge in distortions and disruptions in the country’s forex market,” Olukoyede stated.

Anjarwalla, along with Binance Holdings Limited and Tigran Gambaryan, faces charges including tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35.4 million.

While Gambaryan is already in custody, efforts to extradite Anjarwalla are reportedly underway in collaboration with various international law enforcement agencies and governments, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya.
