Asake, known as “Mr Money With The Vibe,” showcases his creative flair in GQ Magazine’s April/May 2024 edition.

Rising to prominence in 2020 with the hit track “Lady,” the Afrobeats sensation has experienced remarkable success. Following chart-toppers like “Mr Money” and “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide, he unveiled his debut album, “Mr Money With The Vibe,” in 2022, followed by “Work Of Art” in 2023.

Both albums soared to the upper echelons of the Billboard 200, earning accolades, including Asake’s maiden Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance with “Amapiano” featuring Olamide.

But before his meteoric rise, Asake laboured tirelessly. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasises,

I got there in two years, but I’ve been working for years. People count the days of success, not the days of effort.

In his interview with GQ, Asake delved into his musical evolution and pursuit of excellence. Describing his genre as an extension of his identity, he remarked,

My music is just me. It’s not something I can explain. It’s shaped by the music I grew up listening to.

Discussing his debut album “Mr Money,” Asake expressed a desire for authenticity aimed at portraying his multifaceted persona. He elaborates,

I wanted to be myself—that guy who craves money, enjoys the nightlife, and seeks pleasure. ‘Work of Art’ delves deeper into my psyche. I’m often perceived as mysterious due to my reserved nature. This album is a glimpse into my soul, revealing my humanity.

Asake’s openness to evolution and experimentation is evident as he contemplates future projects.

I’ll never limit myself to one style. Tomorrow, I may decide to explore reggae. It’s about staying true to oneself while embracing growth.

Regarding his Grammy nomination, Asake maintained a grounded perspective, viewing it as a step in his journey rather than a destination. “It’s not a loss for me. I appreciate the recognition, but I’m relaxed about it. There’s always another opportunity,” he said.

Asake’s unwavering commitment to authenticity and growth sets him apart as an artist poised for enduring success. With each endeavour, he continues to captivate audiences and defy expectations, solidifying his status as a true luminary in music.
