Idris Elba, renowned for his roles in “Luther” and “Hijack,” is stepping into the director’s chair for the short film “Dust To Dreams.” The project, a collaboration between Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) via its Creative Africa Nexus (Canex), boasts a stellar cast including singer Seal, Nollywood stars Nse Ikpe-Etim, Eku Edewor, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and former Nigerian Idol contestant Constance Olatunde.

Set in the vibrant Lagos city, Nigeria, the film delves into the poignant relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter as they navigate the father’s introduction for the first time. Conceptualised by Abudu and helmed by Elba, the film marks a significant venture into African storytelling.

Abudu, serving as both executive producer and producer, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the personal significance of “Dust To Dreams.” Alongside Abudu, producers Temidayo Makanjuola, Inem King, and Vanessa Demme drive the project forward with passion and dedication.

Seal, whose Nigerian heritage adds a personal touch to the project, joins the cast following his notable contributions to music and screen, including appearances in “Me Time” and “The Passion.” Meanwhile, Elba, with his Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian background, continues his commitment to nurturing African talents following his directorial debut with “Yardie.”

Afreximbank, a pan-African financial institution established in the early ’90s, underscores its dedication to empowering Africa’s creative economy through collaborations like “Dust To Dreams.” Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of Afreximbank, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Africa’s creative industries through various avenues, including financing and capacity building.

With a blend of international talent and African storytelling, “Dust To Dreams” is a promising endeavour poised to captivate audiences worldwide.
