New South Wales Government Appoints Bola Oyetunji, of Nigerian Descent, as New Auditor-General

The government of New South Wales in Australia has named Mr. Bola Oyetunji, of Nigerian descent, as its new Auditor-General. Scheduled to be sworn in April, Mr. Oyetunji will succeed Margaret Crawford, who will conclude her eight-year term. Premier Chris Minns announced the appointment, expressing confidence in Mr. Oyetunji’s capabilities to lead effectively in this critical role.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), commended the selection of Mr. Oyetunji, recognizing it as a well-deserved and admirable appointment. Mr. Oyetunji brings a wealth of experience in auditing and finance to the position. He previously served as the Group Executive Director of the Financial Statements Audit Service Group and Group Head of the Systems Assurance and Data Analytics Group at the Australian National Audit Office.

With a career spanning various levels of government, from Commonwealth to State and Local, Mr. Oyetunji has demonstrated strong executive leadership and expertise in strategy formulation, governance, data analytics, finance, accounting, and auditing. His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Ife and a Master of Commerce in Banking and Finance from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Mr. Oyetunji’s professional journey began at Deloitte Australia, where he served as a Client Manager before joining Ernst & Young Sydney as a Senior Manager. He later transitioned to the Audit Office of New South Wales (NSW), where he held various positions, including Director and Senior Executive Director, providing leadership and strategic oversight in auditing.

His appointment as the Auditor-General for New South Wales underscores his exceptional qualifications and dedication to public service. The government expressed confidence in Mr. Oyetunji’s ability to uphold accountability and ensure the efficient use of public funds for the benefit of the state.
