Several viral videos have shown an outbreak of violence between cult groups, allegedly the Vikings and the Aye, which left a 400-level student dead at Abia State University, Uturu.

According to reports, the victim, a 400-level History and International Relations student and allegedly a member of the Aye confraternity, was attacked by members of the Vikings within the university area, which led to his death.

Addressing reporters on Monday, following the State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, stated:

“It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, between student groups where a student lost his life.

“Some remedial actions have been taken to return normalcy. The state government has dispatched some security agencies to Abia State University Uturu,” he stated, as he advised students to refrain from violence and face their studies.

However, the university administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the recent attack or disclosed any actions being implemented to guarantee student safety.
