Following the announcement of Jose Peseiro’s resignation as head coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen has reportedly been appointed as the interim coach for the Nigerian national football team.
Peseiro, who led the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), decided to step down as his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended on February 28, 2024.
Recall it was reported that despite negotiations for a new contract with Peseiro, he opted to resign, leaving the NFF to appoint Eguavoen to take charge temporarily.
The 58-year-old, a former Super Eagles coach himself, will lead the National team until a permanent replacement is found.
Eguavoen previously served as interim manager during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon following Gernot Rohr’s departure.
