Abia Governor Confirms State Negotiation with EEDC Handover of Electricity Supply

The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has confirmed the ongoing negotiation with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) on handing over eight local governments left without constant electricity to be powered by the Geometric Power Plant.

During a one-on-one interview with Channels TV, Otti expressed the State is in discussion with the EEDC to hand over the 8 local government areas left in Abia yet to be powered with its newly inaugurated 188MW geometric power plant.

In a recall, West Africa Weekly reported the inauguration of a 188MW geometric power plant, built to power the entire state’s energy capacity.

We expect that the discussion we are having with the EEDC, the part of that capacity will go to Umahia, which is the 8 other local government left, he stated.

However, the call to utilize the remaining turbines, which power the region’s energy supply, also would contribute to the National grid. This is after the third turbine has been made operational, each generating 47 megawatts, which stands to be test-run in the next 10 days.

Essentially, the $800 million power project is capable of powering all local governments of the State.
