Qatar denies business and investment forum request by Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu

The embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja has written to communicate the rejection to host the proposed Business and Investment Forum (BIF) during a state visit of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, to Qatar on 2nd-3rd March 2024.

The Qatari side cited several reasons for their inability to host the forum, as outlined in their statement. Firstly, there is no existing agreement between Qatar and Nigeria on Investment Promotion and Protection, thus posing a significant hurdle for organizing such an event.

‘’The Embassy has the honour to inform that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar apologizes that it will not be able to hold a Business and Investment Forum as proposed by the Nigerian side due to the following reasons: Unfortunately, there is no any agreement signed between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Investment Promotion and Protection. His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry will be carrying out official missions outside the country during the upcoming visit period,’’ the letter partly read.

Additionally, the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar will be undertaking official missions abroad during the scheduled visit, further complicating logistical arrangements.

Furthermore, the State of Qatar is slated to host a Web Summit during the same period, diverting the attention of state authorities away from auxiliary events.
