Angry and Hungry Residents of Niger State Protests Over High Cost of Living

Amidst the brewing food crisis and inflation faced by Nigeria, residents of Niger State have taken to the streets to protest over the high cost of living.

Residents of Suleja, Nigeria State, in a bid to quench their hunger and dissatisfaction over the hardship, blocked many roads in the City while at the sight of lorries with food items were apprehended and carted away.

However, the governor of Niger state, Umar Bago, has just secured $20mln in agricultural funding from the Afro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) to plant trees, support irrigation and dry season mechanized farming.

This is following the state procurement of 300 mechanized tractors to support farmers and achieve a food sufficiency program in Niger State.

The Governor noted that a 10-man committee appointed to recover the grazing of lands in the state will help to support all-inclusive agriculture hence, people can venture into other aspects of animal husbandry and aquaculture, not just crop production.

Meanwhile, with the protest outbreak, the government of Niger State is yet to release a statement of concern nor to control the anarchy looming within the state.
