Three captivating Nigerian films have been selected for the 2024 Joburg Film Festival in South Africa: “Mami Wata,” “Orah,” and “All The Colours Of The World Are Between Black and White.”

Cj Obasi’s “Mami Wata” was set in the village of Iyi, where the inhabitants revere the mermaid deity Mami Wata. As children mysteriously vanish and a warlord tightens his grip on the village, two sisters embark on a mission to save their people and restore Mami Wata’s honour. Produced by Oge Obasi, the movie garnered several nominations and wins within and outside Nigeria.

Following suit is Babatunde Apalowo’s poignant tale, “All the Colours of the World Are Between Black and White,” chronicling the blossoming relationship between two men, Bambino and Bawa, amidst the backdrop of Lagos. Despite their deep affection, societal pressures threatened to tear them apart. The movie was penned by Apalowo and produced by Damilola Orimogunje,

Lastly, “Orah,” directed by Canadian-Nigerian filmmaker Lonzo Nzekwe, delved into the journey of a Canadian taxi driver seeking vengeance against a Nigerian drug ring responsible for her son’s demise.

The festival is set to commence on Tuesday, February 27, and conclude on Sunday, March 3.
