In a somber turn of events, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Adamawa State reportedly collapsed and died during the penalty shootouts in the Nigeria vs. South Africa match.

The Nations  reported that the corper has only been identified as Samuel from Kaduna State. Samuel allegedly collapsed just before the final kick that secured Nigeria’s victory. Those at the sports viewing center in Numan were thrown into shock at the unexpected development.

According to eyewitness accounts shared on social media, the corps member fainted before the winning goal, and despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he tragically passed away. NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Jingi Dennis, confirmed the corps member’s death at the General Hospital in Numan.

Mr. Dennis said, ”I received the news of his death last night. I hope to have more details today.

“According to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member told the people around him that he did not like watching penalty shootouts. He then bowed his head and all of a sudden, he collapsed.

”He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.”

In a parallel incident, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives from Delta State, also met a tragic end while watching the AFCON semi-finals between Nigeria and South Africa. Reportedly, he suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed when South Africa scored a penalty against Nigeria. These unfortunate incidents cast a shadow over the celebrations.
