Six farmers and a driver have been left dead in Borno State after a bus ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) believed to have been planted by terrorists. This incident took place on Pulka-Firgi Road in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, on Monday, January 29.

Security expert Zagazola Makama, alongside other credible sources, reported that the event took place between 7 am and 8 am on Monday. The 18-seater commercial bus, which was carrying the victims to their farms, had unknowingly detonated the IED.

“The six farmers and the driver were confirmed dead, seven others were also severely injured,” said Bukar Ibrahim, a leading figure in the Civilian Joint Task Force in Bama, during a telephone conversation with The PUNCH.

Another source from CJTF, Musa Idrissa, mentioned to The PUNCH that “Those dead could be more than seven because shattered remains of bodies were later found and packed.”

The Bama-Firgi-Pulka-Gwoza Road has been a frequent target for attacks by the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group, including the setting of landmines in the area.
