Breaking News: Jose Mourinho Departs AS Roma

358

AS Roma has officially announced the departure of Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff from the Serie A club. The decision comes as Roma finds itself in a challenging position in the league, currently in the ninth position.

Mourinho, who took charge as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021, had notable successes during his tenure, notably leading Roma to Europa Conference League glory just a year after his appointment.

Despite reaching the Europa League final last year, where Roma faced Sevilla, the Italian side suffered a heartbreaking defeat, losing 4-1 on penalties after extra time in Budapest.

Club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin expressed gratitude for Mourinho’s passion and efforts during his time with Roma.

However, they stated that they believe an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. The departure marks the end of Mourinho’s journey with Roma, with the club confirming in an official statement that the Portuguese coach and his coaching staff will leave with immediate effect.

The 60-year-old Mourinho faced challenges this season, with emotions running high. Last week, he was sent off for the second time in four days during a heated derby with Roma, a match that ended in a 1-0 defeat in the Coppa Italia quarter-final. This setback was followed by another defeat, a 3-1 loss to AC Milan last Sunday.
