Oppenheimer Triumphs with Eight Wins at Critics Choice Awards, Barbenheimer Duo Dominates, and TV Honors Repeat Golden Globe Success

Oppenheimer secured its front-runner status at the Critics Choice Awards, claiming eight wins, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan. The Barbenheimer duo dominated the night, with Barbie following closely with six wins, including Best Comedy. Emma Stone was surprised with a Best Actress win for Poor Things, while Paul Giamatti repeated his success as Best Actor for The Holdovers.

Oppenheimer’s impressive haul encompassed Best Acting Ensemble, Visual Effects, Editing, Cinematography, and Score. Barbie, the top film of 2023, won in categories like Original Screenplay, Production Design, Costume Design, and Best Song. The TV categories mirrored the Golden Globes, with Beef, Succession, and The Bear securing wins.

Golden Globes winners Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ali Wong, and Steven Yeun repeated their success at the Critics Choice Awards. The small screen also honoured performances from The Morning Show, The Crown, and Only Murders in the Building.

Beef and The Bear led TV with four trophies each, while Succession garnered three. Universal Pictures dominated with eight wins, all for Oppenheimer, followed by Warner Bros with six for Barbie. Netflix outshone other platforms with eight wins, doubling FX and HBO, each with four.

Margot Robbie presented the SeeHer Award to America Ferrera, and James Mangold honoured Harrison Ford with the Career Achievement Award. Chelsea Handler returned as the host, injecting humour into the ceremony, including a playful jab at her ex-boyfriend Jo Koy.

Barbie entered the night with 18 nominations, leading all Critics Choice nominees, followed by Barbenheimer teammate Oppenheimer and Poor Things with 13 each. The Morning Show led small-screen nominations with six, followed by Succession with five, while various shows earned four nominations each.
