1.1k

Honoured with an Oscar on Tuesday, Angela Bassett, the celebrated actress of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, made the event more memorable by sharing it with her family. The red carpet at the 14th Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles saw the star alongside her husband, Courtney B. Vance, and their 17-year-old twins, Slater Josiah Vance and Bronwyn Golden Vance, creating a rare family moment before the press photographers.

During an interview with ET’s Denny Directo on the carpet, Bassett expressed her gratitude for having her loved ones present on her significant night. “The people who love being there, they’re there, [and] they’re there holding me up,” she said, acknowledging the support from her family, friends, and stylists at the star-studded event. “You can’t do it alone.”

Bassett, initially nominated for an Academy Award in 1993 for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It?, received a second nomination in 2022 for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Now, receiving the well-deserved honorary Oscar, the screen icon reflected on her journey to this prestigious recognition. “It’s been decades, right? Decades and decades, roles and roles, and blessings upon blessings,” Bassett shared, expressing gratitude for the love from her fans and champions throughout her career. “I’m getting chills now, but I felt the love all these years. I mean, they have prayed, they have fussed, they have written, they have had my back.”

Bassett humbly acknowledged the satisfaction of receiving the honorary Oscar, stating, “So it feels really satisfying to receive this. I’m humbled.”
