The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held an emergency meeting on December 20, 2023, issuing a stern warning to its members against making inflammatory statements and actions that could jeopardize the party’s cohesion.

The National Working Committee (NWC), under the Acting Chairmanship of Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum reaffirmed the party’s unity and ground presence in Rivers State and across the nation despite facing challenges.

In a statement posted on the party’s official page on X(formerly Twitter), Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, urged members to remain vigilant and focused in resisting any efforts aimed at undermining the PDP’s role as a leading opposition force in safeguarding democracy.

Highlighting the gravity of such actions, the NWC condemned behaviours inconsistent with the party’s objectives and accused certain individuals of being recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine PDP’s unity.

These actions, deemed in violation of the PDP Constitution, were described as detrimental to the party, the welfare of Nigerians and the sustenance of democracy.

The NWC emphasized the need for party members, especially influential figures, to contribute constructively to the PDP’s goals and national governance rather than engage in divisive activities that could tarnish the party’s image.

In a clear warning, the NWC indicated its readiness to take disciplinary measures against those found contravening the party’s Constitution.

The committee underscored the importance of unity among members to counter the perceived attempts by the APC to destabilize the PDP and steer the nation toward a one-party system.

The statement also alleged that there are plots by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to decimate the opposition and impose a One-Party State in the country. Therefore, it charges all members to remain united, alert, and focused on resisting the antics of the APC and its agents.
