In a powerful speech to the Congress on Thursday, President Joe Biden pointed fingers at Donald Trump, claiming he poses a threat to U.S. democracy and is too lenient towards Russia.

Biden was making his pitch for another term in the White House during the last State of Union before the elections.

“Now my predecessor, a former Republican president, tells Putin, quote, ‘Do whatever you want,'” Biden remarked. “I think it’s outrageous, it’s dangerous and it’s unacceptable.”

During the 68-minute address, Biden, who faces challenges with low approval ratings, seized the opportunity to share his vision for the next four years, indirectly referencing Trump, who is running against him in the upcoming November 5 election.

The POTUS accused Trump of downplaying the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, giving in to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and blocking a bill for stricter U.S.-Mexico border controls.

Biden also took a stand on several key issues, contrasting his stance with Trump’s on abortion rights and the economy. He also playfully jabbed at Republican lawmakers, showing confidence and addressing concerns about his age.

Highlighting his determination to uphold the truth about the Capitol riot, Biden stated, “My predecessor and some of you here seek to bury the truth about January 6. I will not do that. You can’t love your country only when you win.”

While addressing different topics, Biden also criticised Republicans for attempting to halt healthcare provisions and increase deficits, despite benefiting from legislation they opposed. Despite facing criticism from both sides of the political spectrum on various issues, the Democrats in the chamber acknowledged Biden with enthusiastic support.

Meanwhile, Trump responded to Biden’s speech on his Truth Social platform, criticising the president.

He wrote, “He looks so angry when he’s talking, which is a trait of people who know they are ‘losing it,’

“The anger and shouting is not helpful to bringing our Country back together!”
